New Year, New You?

The New Year is approaching and one of the biggest draws of a New Year is the resolutions that we all make. We get a clean slate, a new month and a whole new beginning stretched out ahead of us. A New Year is a time to look back on the previous one and learn from mistakes that were made. New Year’s resolutions are very individual and private for most people, so when you think about yours you have to decide for yourself what personal things you would like to change about your life.

The beauty of the clean slate is that you can prepare better for the year ahead and one of the biggest things that nearly all parents flap about through the year is affordability. Affording the bills when they land on the doormat. Affording Christmas gifts when the season rolls around. Saving enough money for the emergency account to be healthy. Making promises to yourself to use the services of companies like to help yourself to save money throughout the year is probably the best thing that you can do for your family if money is the one thing you struggle with throughout the year. Preparing for 2018 includes learning from the mistakes made in 2017, but not dwelling on them. A new slate to work on means getting yourself geared up and ready for a fresh start, so other than savings, what else could you concentrate on?

Health. A big resolution for most people is to get their health back. Sure, you may not NEED a new year to start over with your health, but it’s a great place to start if you’re not sure what you want to do for the year. Your health is as important as your finances, and the fact you want to look after it at all is a good start.

Career. Looking at your career and choosing whether you want to progress it by progressing your own learning, or change career completely is a good way to do something new for yourself in 2018. Heading to take new qualifications and new classes is a way to expand your knowledge and do something for yourself. You can also improve your career prospects and therefore increase your salary. This goes a long way to helping your finances.

Social Life. A new year should be a fresh start for yourself, but that should always include making time for the people that you love in your life. Give yourself the permission to enjoy more of a social life and make an effort to enjoy the company of those that you love the most. Sometimes, work and family get in the way of that, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t make the time for a change.

New Year, new start, and you can make the best of it by choosing resolutions that can enrich your life and your own experiences. Add on the bungee jump and tick off a bucket list item if you must, but make it a good year!
